From Budget to High-End — Audio and Video Systems for Music Room, Home Theater, Studio and Concert Hall — Southern California’s Experts for Fine Listening and Viewing
There is one advantage to being around forever: one gets a sense of history.
As each new technology has been developed, there’s always been a marketing frenzy to sell the exciting new equipment before it actually sounds or looks better than the technology that it is replacing. The first stereo LP records were much noisier than their mono twins. It took many years for transistor electronics to sound as good or better than the tube designs they hoped to obsolete. The first CDs had horrible highs and mids in spite of their low noise and bass potential, when compared with LP records. In each case, it took small companies dedicated to perfecting the performance of these technologies to make each technology work musically.
Today, most people are listening to sound systems in their homes that are less musical than what we were selling in the audio salons of the ’70’s! The reason for this travesty to listening is that video and computer sales have been mass-market driven, and the audio portion of these systems has been an afterthought. People were given low expectations, with no opportunity to compare performance. It is so rare today to go into a store and find a system that is set up to perform well musically that SACD and DVD-Audio, two music formats that are vastly superior to CD, both failed to make an impression on the public.
With today’s new Blu-ray players, we have an opportunity to get state-of-the-art video and audio together. For the format to be used on music, we need a Renaissance, where small audio-video specialists again demonstrate quality to a new generation of listeners who grew up on computer speakers and home-theater-in a-box systems.
At Paul Squillo Music Systems, I will start by creating high-performance virtual system packages that really can show off the virtues of these new, promising technologies. If your starter budget is small, I’ll help you find pre-owned audio classics that were musically far ahead of their time, at a price you can afford.
I want you all to want great music and movies in your home, and I have the expertise and perspective to create systems that will amaze you all.
